Basic Fly Fishing & Casting Lessons

We offer one-on-one and small group fly fishing and casting lessons that can be tailored based on skill and area of interest.

This is a great opportunity for beginning anglers to delve into fly fishing and gain hands-on experience.

Goals
After completing this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of fly casting

  • Effectively use equipment and gear

  • Differentiate between fly lines

  • Select flies and fish flies

  • Learn fly fishing terminology/vocabulary 

  • Develop an eye for reading the water 

  • Apply safety precautions when fly fishing along ocean coasts and marshes

For anglers starting out, we will meet at a beach to safely cover basic gear and casting. Then we will practice in the Atlantic Ocean and in saltwater marshes to experience the effect water has on your fly line and casting techniques. After establishing the foundation, we will go fishing!

Pricing: $200 / 4-hours, plus a $10 saltwater Massachusetts fishing permit.

Requirements: Hands-on experience, practice, walking & wading, and fishing (catch & release only).

Supplies provided: All fishing gear and equipment.

Participants are responsible for bringing: Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, layers of clothes, rain coat, and a $10 saltwater Massachusetts Fishing Permit.

Ages 10+ and all experience levels are welcome. Anglers 18 and under must be accompanied by a guardian.

Intro to Fly Tying

Catching fish with your own flies is an extremely rewarding achievement.

This class is an introduction to fly tying. It is a great opportunity to learn about the tools required to tie flies and the selection and preparation of materials. Fly patterns that “match the hatch” for freshwater and saltwater are tied in this class, creating a well-rounded selection of flies to start filling your fly box with.

Goals
After completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of fly tying

  • Use a number of fly tying materials and devices

  • Gain terminology/vocabulary

  • Tie popular freshwater and saltwater fly patterns

Pricing: $125 / 3 hours

Requirements: Hands-on experience using a variety of materials and tools.

Supplies provided: All tools and materials are included.

Participants are responsible for bringing: Sunglasses and sunscreen.

Getting Started - Intro to Essential Gear

This workshop is an introduction to the basic essential gear needed to start fly fishing. It is a great opportunity to learn about equipment preparation, resources, safety rules and regulations, and fishable water.

Goals
After completing this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the use of equipment and gear

  • Gain terminology/vocabulary

  • Assemble a fly rod and reel

  • Know what fly lines are available

  • Tie basic knots

  • Select flies

  • Access available fly fishing resources

Pricing: $125 / 3 hours

Requirements: Hands-on experience using a variety of equipment and gear.

Supplies provided: All fishing equipment, gear, and resources are included.
